Playbooks
This release introduces a major new initiative by CoreView to introduce best practices for managing Microsoft 365 -- Playbooks. CoreView Playbooks take many of the capabilities of CoreSuite – reporting, workflow, KPIs, but assemble them into a pre-defined, out-of-the-box solution that detects problems in your M365 environment and then provides automated remediation.
Playbooks are composed of Policies that we define for our M365 environment. Example of policies include:
- Admins must have MFA
- Teams must have an owner
- Shared mailboxes must not be assigned a license
- Sharepoint sites shared externally must not have sensitive content
- Guest users must be reviewed and approved every 6 months
Each policy has an associated workflow to help moderate and manage those issues. The workflows are pre-defined but provide flexibility to configure for your organization needs. Workflows can be scheduled to run on a recurring basis or can be executed manually.
Playbooks also provide the ability to manage exceptions, either temporary or permanent, with easy oversight to manage those exceptions.
This release provides a Teams Governance Playbook which includes a number of policies related to helping control Microsoft Teams sprawl. You can read more details about Playbooks in the CoreView Playbooks Overview.
Note: Playbooks are only available within the New User Experience. Please switch to the New UX for guides and walkthroughs on using Playbooks.
New SharePoint Actions
There are two new SharePoint management actions available in this release -- Add SharePoint Admins in Bulk and Remove SharePoint Admins in Bulk. This makes it easier to manage SharePoint site administrators. These actions are also available to be added as steps in a workflow.
Note: These management actions can only be executed in the new UX, but can be configured in the workflow using the legacy UX.
Device Virtual Tenants
Devices that do not have a registered owner can now be filtered by virtual tenant. First, you can assign devices to security groups using the new Set CoreView Device tag management action. Second, virtual tenants for devices can now be configured by Security Group. By assigning devices to security groups and by setting up your virtual tenant to filter devices by Security Group, you can now control delegation of devices that do not have a registered owner. New UX Enhancements
The following capabilities have been migrated to the New User Experience.
- License Templates - Set up and manage your license templates
- Audit Reports - This is the first release of Audit reports in the New UX. The ability to create alerts will be coming in an upcoming release.
Password Rotation for Service Accounts
For some organizations, password rotation is a requirement for all accounts. This release allows customers to enable password rotation for CoreView service accounts. If enabled, this will trigger CoreView to generate new random passwords for service accounts every 90 days. It will also allow for manual trigger of password rotation. However, no humans are involved in the generation or rotation of these passwords, so the shortcomings of password patterns is avoided. To enable this feature, contact CoreView support.
September 14 Enhancements
Nested Groups for Virtual Tenants
With this release we have provided support for nested groups when defining virtual tenants. Now, when defining a virtual tenant by group, if there are nested groups within that group, they will automatically be added to the virtual tenant. As a result, all of the users belonging to the nested/subordinate groups will become members of the virtual tenant. This will cut down on the number of steps that it will take to define a virtual tenant by group and will ensure that subordinate groups can be managed by appropriate Operators. (UserVoice)
Nested Permissions
With this release we have provided support for nested permissions. Now when assigning a permission to operators by group, the permission will automatically persist to the members of the subordinate groups. This will cut down on the number of steps that it will take to assign the appropriate permissions to members of subordinate groups. (UserVoice)
September 5 Enhancements
New UX Enhancements
- We have released a number of new enhancements to the New User Experience.
- You can now copy text from tables and reports. We improved the feature so now it's easier to select a single cell or a range (and also see what has been selected).
- You can now search for groups and actions in the Global search. We added a widget that shows your most used management actions.
- In-line actions have been enabled in user and group cards.
- Default rows now shown in a table are 25. Your setting gets saved across sessions upon change.
- We updated the behavior of the management panel in report and cards. It now displays "ready-to-be-used-yellow" only if your management session is on (or you have advanced management). In case your management session is turned off, clicking on the panel opens the management session panel instead (so you can fill in the credentials and turn it on).
- Your latest choice in the management action filter assistant (By activity vs By category), gets now saved and set as default for you.
- You can now reset the search bar in the management actions list using the "X", other than manually deleting your entry.
- Clicking on "Logout Azure" now actually logs you out from Azure.
- You cannot set a value lower than consumed licenses, for licenses allocated to a license pool.
- Selecting a license pool in the License pool center, and clicking on "manage allocated licenses" now let you skip the license pool selection step. This is meant to speed up the management of license pools
- Friendly name for licenses is now shown when managing license pools from the license pool setting page
