This how-to explains how to understand and configure Microsoft 365 Groups using CoreView.
What are Microsoft 365 Groups?
Microsoft 365 Groups provide a shared workspace for communication, file sharing, calendar events, emails, contacts, conversations, Stream (on SharePoint), Planner, and other shared resources, making them the recommended option for team collaboration.
Key considerations:
- If enabled by your Tenant Administrator, you can add people from outside your organization to a group if this option .
- You can also allow external senders to send emails to the group address. Refer to the article “Manage guest access in Microsoft 365 groups” in Microsoft documentation.
- Groups can be configured for dynamic membership in Microsoft Entra ID. With dynamic membership, members are automatically added or removed based on attributes such as department, location, or title. Refer to the article “Change static groups to dynamic membership groups in Microsoft Entra ID” in Microsoft documentation.
- You can access Microsoft 365 Groups using mobile apps such as Outlook for iOS and Outlook for Android.
- If enabled by the Tenant Administrator, group members can “Send as” or “Send on behalf of” the group email address.
- Group owners and members are automatically mapped to SharePoint site Owners and Members. You can also add groups to SharePoint Visitors for additional permissions.
For more information, see the article “Microsoft 365 Groups” in Microsoft documentation.
How to create a Microsoft 365 group using CoreView
Step 1: locate the management action
Navigate to “ACTIONS > Management Actions > Microsoft 365 group > Create Microsoft 365 group”.

Step 2: configure group details
The “Create Microsoft 365 Group” wizard will appear. Complete the following sections:
Info
- Display name: the friendly name for the group as it appears in the address book and directory (e.g., "HR").
- Primary SMTP Address: the main email alias assigned to the group. This, plus the domain, becomes the group’s email address.
- Domain: the email domain for the group’s address (e.g., onmicrosoft.com). Select from your organization’s allowed domains.
-
Access type: controls group privacy
- Private: only members can see group content.
- Public: anyone in the organization can see group content.
- Language: sets the default language for group-related notifications and communications.
-
Owner: one or more users who manage the group’s membership and settings.
Note: only users from your tenant can be owners; guest users are not permitted. - Notes (optional): free-text field to record any relevant notes about this group (e.g., its intended usage).
Sender options
Choose who can send messages to the group:
- Only senders inside my organization: restricts group messaging to your organization’s users. External/guest users cannot email the group.
- Senders inside and outside of my organization: allows group messages to be received from both internal and external senders. Use with caution for privacy and security.
Other settings
- Auto subscribe new members: if checked, newly added members will automatically receive group conversation emails in their inbox.
- Hidden from Exchange clients enabled: if checked, the group will not appear in Exchange clients (e.g., Outlook address book), making it less discoverable to users.
- Hidden from address lists: if checked, hides the group from all address lists, further limiting visibility for privacy-sensitive groups.

Once completed, click “Submit” to create the group.
